Wedding Vows

Planning your wedding vows is one of the most important decisions you will make while planning your wedding, but often gets put off until the last minute. Don't let this happen to you! It's important to start thinking about what type of wedding vows you want to use and how you want them to express your love and commitment to each other.

The first step is to talk it over with your partner. You may decide to use the pre-written vows that are traditionally used by your church, or you may choose to write your own vows. Many couples create their own contemporary style wedding vows after looking at many different examples and picking and choosing what they would like to use for their ceremony. Whatever you decide, it's important to talk it over with your fiance early on, so you can agree on the vows, and have the time to write your own if you choose to do so.

If you do decide to use your own custom vows, you should also check with your minister / priest / officiant to make sure they are ok with any changes you have made to their preferred set. Some religious groups are pretty lenient about what you choose to say, as long it is communicates the basics, while others are very strict about the wording.

We've provided a list below of some traditional wedding vows, including those used most often by the various religious groups, to help you get started. Between these examples, other examples you find, and your own ideas, you should be able to piece together the perfect vows for your wedding.
